Walking is the most natural human form of motion. In an epoch in which everything has to be as fast as possible, and especially mass tourism is changing slowly but surely and permanentlöy the face of our planet, a journey such as this, makes it possible to experience the most diverse landscapes intensely just one more time. Unlike a driving through it, direct contact with people of each country whilst walking through it is not only desirable but also, indeed, necessary. Aborigines in Australia have made known to us the fact that long walks for months together create a deep and intense sense of kinship with nature. A feeling that modern, urban man no longer knows. The "Walk to the Cape of Good Hope" also opens up a whole lot of cultural possibilities. In my capacity as singer and composer/lyricist, its always been my dream to investigate foreign worlds of music. A mini-disc recorder in my luggage is going to take care of a great deal of interesting and unusual recordings. In the bigger cities, contact to those dealing with culture has been planned, so that the local Goethe Institutes will not be unhelpful there. At the same time, a lot of photo and film material will be made and collected for comprehensive documentation, also including writing a journal. Since Im neither a European nor an African, I see myself as representative of all people of mixed and multi-racial parentage. This group of people is growing ever bigger, which is evident from the steadily increasing number of multi-racial marriages. Of course, this development is not just "trendy", but also causes a considerable amount of difficulty especially for those directly concerned. So that in Germany, Im a "nigger", in Africa a "white woman" or a "half-caste", all of which cause the most diverse reactions and social repercussions as a consequence. Its therefore obvious, that I try to garner understanding and tolerance both for myself and for my kind of people, since its not always very comfortable not to belong anywhere, to be neither this nor that. To realize as many possibilities and aspects of the journey as possible (during and after), all those interested are very heartily invited to participate in as many and diverse ways as is possible. There are no limits set to the imagination as far as this is concerned and Id like to thanks all my friends right now for the help and encouragement I have already received.
