Musical career Patricia Nomakosazana Dhlamini was born in the sixties in Munich. Her mother comes from Niederlausitz (the Cottbus district), in Germany. She left Berlin at the end of the fifties, interrupting her studies and training to become a dentist. Passing through Lingen and Mainz, she arrived in Munich. Her Father, born in Pietermaritzburg in Natal, also called Zululand, left South Africa as a member of the ANC party at the beginning of the sixites, from where, on account of his contacts in the Catholic church - his uncle, Nikolaus Dhlamini was the first black Bishop in South Africa - he was able to leave, passing through Ghana and arriving in Munich, to continue his diverse studies in history and philosophy. Nomakosazana made her first recordings as vocalist at the age of five years - a Zulu song for a series entitled "Children's Songs from All Over The World" for Bavarian Radio. At the same time, she began to take music lessons with piano and choral singing as main subjects of study, having received a stipendium from the Carl Orff funding for School Work and Choral Song. Her mother passed away in 1976 - in the year of the rebellion of school children in Soweto - whilst at the same time, the decision for the family to move to southern Africa - to be precise, to the "frontline state" of Botswana - had already been taken. Consequently, her father, George and Nomakosazana - left alone, just the two of them, for Botswana. Patricia Nomakosazana came back to Munich alone at the end of the seventies and began to work as lead vocalist for various bands and projects (further details in the booklet liner note to Tutu Records 888 144 Trouble in Paradise, from the series Art of the Duo). During this period, she also issued a number of records under a pseudonym and with the title "Patti Blu in Aimland". Already as a child, Patricia Nomakosazana went on long treks with her mother through the woods of Bavaria, (the Berge Arber, the Osser..) as also quite a few mountains in Upper Bavaria and Austria... During the time she spent in Botswana, it was not a bit unusual for her to hitch hike over 700 miles across country to visit friends, for instance, who had had to escape from South Africa. She still does not possess a driving license and walking long distances was always something she took forgranted and considered a part of her daily training, to maintain a good constituition, for professional reasons quite apart from anything else. Here are some of the most important landmarks of her career as a singer and musician: 1967 Recordings with Bavarian Radio for the series "Children's Songs from All Over The World", including a Zulu song 1982-87 Performances and recordings with her own soul-funk band, Choice. She made a name for herself as the first woman rapper in both English and German. 1988-90 Performances with the band Go-Zoon. Sound sculpture and body painting were an important part of the show concept 1989-92 The project "Patti Blu in Aimland" became reality with the establishment of her own record company in co-operation with Felix Occhionero (Aimland Records) 1991-93 Work on the musical project "Poker" by Ruth-Sharon Koch and Geoff Warren. Lead vocals and choral arrangements and recordings; with amongst others Kim Clarke, Bill Bickford, Bruce Ditmas, Ed Schuller, Nicolas Simion, under the musical direction of Frank Ku-umba Lacy. Songs from Poker was released on Tutu Records 888 150 in 1995 with the support of the Munich Arts' Council. 1992-93 The first performances with duo partner, Uli Lenz from Berlin, followed by the recording and release of the CD in the Art of the Duo Tutu Records series (888 144) with the title, Trouble in Paradise. 1990-97 Free lance singer with various ensembles, amongst others "John West Big Band", "Koko Blue", "Purple Gang" and Jasper van t'Hoff's Pili Pili. Also diverse recordings for various studio projects including film music, and of course, the usual advertising jingles. 1992-98 A number of tours with duo partner Uli Lenz through Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Spain. Performances at festivals on both sides of the Atlantic, such as the Modena Festival (Italy), Leverkusener Jazztage, the East-West Jazz Festival in Nürnberg, in Granada (Spain) and the Houston International Jazz Festival in Texas, USA.
